How did you learn to do Bonsai ? Did
someone teach you ?
Gail:
Actually, I answered an ad in the paper.
Yuko Farris, who was from the main
Island of Japan, was looking for someone to
assist her in her bonsai business. Both she
and her husband were very spiritual people.
Eventually, they had to move from Nashville,
and I just carried on with the business. I've
also done extensive reading on the subject.
Why is Bonsai
important to you ?
Gail:
Both the practice of and appreciation for
bonsai are fulfilling in so many ways. For me,
the combination of artistic elements and nature
heightens awareness and provides a sense
of "grounding" at the same time. It is a peaceful
form of expression which provides release from
the stresses of the world. I like to think about the
age of the art; thousands of years ago, someone
was appreciating this activity in much the same
way. Observing a bonsai is like entering a
little universe where all is nature and beauty
and balance.
